Our office is located at 2/75a Angas Street in the city with parking generally available in the area. Clients can also park at the Central Markets car parks for a minimal fee.
We know the value of listening to clients and practise active listening techniques in our interviews. This practice is very useful in gaining further information about our clients and validating their concerns. It is often extremely difficult for clients to provide us with the information we need for completing documents as they are so emotionally invested in their current circumstances. We have been involved with many clients suffering long term abuse at the hands of their partners and understand how debilitating this can be. Additionally we ensure our clients understand the court processes and have a thorough knowledge of what to expect, particularly with their first court attendance which can be quite frightening and alienating.
Many family lawyers do not accept legal aid clients but we are happy to in line with our commitment to access to justice. We assess each client's circumstances at the first free interview and assist clients to complete the legal aid application form if they fit the criteria.
These often include superannuation benefits and we can advise of the requirements if the superannuation is an accumulation or defined benefit scheme, in transition to retirement or a self managed superannuation fund. These matters can also include spending time with children, who the children will live with and any other issues that might impact on time spending arrangements.
The Family Law Act 1975 provides that all decisions are made in the best interests of the children and that parents must ensure that the children are safe and that they have an ongoing relationship with both parents if circumstances permit. We are committed to ensuring that parents have the best possible relationship with their children, that the parents engage meaningfully with each other to facilitate this and that the children are always safe.
Many clients tell us that when they think of Family Law they think of divorce. There is much more to family law issues: we advise our clients of the many different facets and guide them and engage them with the process so they are involved in all the decisions.
